Here at the homestead, we enjoy growing and raising as much of our own food as we can. We decided a long time ago that with the current commercial trends in food, increased use of pesticides and GMO products, and over-all health of the food, we wanted to know the origins and handling of as much of our food as possible. Notwithstanding, the flavors of fresh, home-grown are undeniably superior.
That being said, we are so very excited to be expanding our homestead to include our very own family milk cow. Welcome Kisses and Cream, a Jersey/SimmAngus cross heifer calf! Kisses and Cream (or K.C. as we’ve been calling her) is still very young which gives us the added advantage of raising her and training her from an early age to halter, stand in the stanchion, and know who we are. K.C. will offer us fresh milk, cream, butter, yogurt, soft cheeses, hard cheeses, ice cream, kefir, and a wide range of other fresh dairy to our pantry. Stay tuned for updates on K.C. and her progress as she grows.
